    More background studies

I’ve been having so much fun creating backgrounds that I decided to continue the party!! I just received my beautiful Paul Rubens oil pastels in the mail and played around with those in the first two images- I absolutely love how pretty these turned out– both in a completely different way! They’re both soft and dreamy but the first is shadowy and melancholic where the other feels ethereal. It’s a whole vibe!

The bottom two pages are me laying the base for oil pastel work over top. I wanted to take these Hanna Karlzon and Maria Trolle illustrations and weather them a bit using my Distress Inks before applying oil pastels tomorrow! I’m super excited to continue adding color to these beautiful pages! 🤩

Tools used: Paul Rubens Oil Pastels and Tim Holtz Distress Ink

Art: Imaginary Friends by Karolina Kubikowska, Seasons by Hanna Karlzon and Moon valley by Maria Trolle

    The Magician

I don’t think I’ve ever been more pleased with myself than now. Honestly. I just finished The Magician from World of Tarot by Alexis E. Thompson and I am obsessed!

This page started out as me overcoming my fear of this book because its pages are intricate AF and most of the elements are very realistic and once I laid down my Distress ink in the background I took off running! I wanted to give this a distinct vintage feel with soft brownish colors and to really make the card – and in particular the butterfly pop because those are the center of this piece and I feel I did a pretty good job!

I love working with Distress ink, and I really enjoyed basing with my Tombow dual brush pens. All and all, this was such a win. I worked on it off and on for approximately a month and I’m so so pleased it’s now finished and that it turned out so beautiful!

    Mediums used:

    • Background: Distress ink, distress crayons
    • Basing: Tombow dual brush pens
    • Card border and lettering: Wink of Luna
    • Pencil work: Castle Arts Harmonious and Derwent Chromaflow

Art: World of Tarot by Alexis E. Thompson

    Night Hibiscus

I’ve been having a lot of fun with my Small Victories book. As I’m knee deep in an endometriosis flare up due to new medication, I find my attention span to be super short and so these small vignettes are absolutely perfect!
